Welcome to AARRC

front page

The Aklan Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Center (AARRC) is a strictly No-Kill animal shelter in Kalibo, Aklan, Philippines. We rescue animals in need and hope to get them adopted so they may have a good life with a loving family. We at AARRC hope that you will find your new life-time friend on these pages.

All our animals are current on their vaccinations and were spayed or neutered as well as dewormed. This ensures that they are off to a great start in your home.

The background of many of our animals are the streets of Aklan. Although we go to great lengths to socialise them to be suitable pets, it is impossible to train each one individually. So the dog of your choice may pull on the leash, or doesn't know any party trick commands yet. But our staff will be able to give you useful pointers so that you can train your new friend yourself.

Please take a look around!

The AARRC Team.

I'm Berta, I was volunteer for two weeks in AARRC, and I enjoyed to much the experience.

I fell in love with all the animals there. I took care of the kitties and we walked the dogs. I had amazing days there.

I absolutely recomend to everyone!

Nia, UK:

When I first decided to volunteeras a vet in the Philippines it was a bit of a shock to find how  few rescue centres there were!

Luckily I found AARRC and got to spend 2 weeks neutering cats and dogs as part of their neutering project.

The team at AARRC work day and night saving animals! Michael is incredibly dedicated and passionate about animals and is making a huge difference to the welfare of animals in Aklan and beyond!

I hope to return one day when the new shelter has been finished.
Thank you for a fabulous volunteering project!
Keep up the fantastic work!

Best wishes

Angelina, UK:

As an animal lover I've always wanted to do some kind of volunteer work in that area.

While I was traveling I met a wonderful lady vet who was going to volunteer in Aklan for AARRC and asked if I'd like to help out. I jumped at the chance and it was an experience I'll never forget. We joined them for 2 weeks on their neutering project for both cats and dogs.

AARRC are a real team of people who strive everyday to protect the animals of Aklan, they go above and beyond. They have an amazing home full of animals and an equally amazing shelter.

Michael has so much passion for his cause and it shows in the animals.
I was very lucky and very proud to be a small part of such amazing family run charity.

Keep up the fantastic work <3

Please note, although this work is voluntary, it is not without commitment. Your colleague volunteers and staff (and not to mention our animals) depend on your skills and efforts, so if you have prior engagements and have to miss your volunteering appointment, please notify us or ask one of your friends or colleagues to stand in.

Animal Welfare Tips

  • There are some very important things that anyone can do to help animal welfare and keep your animals safe and
Michel van der Kleij AARRC president and founder
  • 1. Keep your animals inside your house or compound and do not let them roam
  • 2. Spay or neuter your pets (very often this is -almost- free at your city or provincial veterinarian)
  • 3. Vaccinate yearly and deworm every 6 months to prevent spread of disease
